In Canada, approximately 2500 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year and 1700 succumb to the disease. Ovarian cancer is the most serious gynaecologic cancer, affecting one in 70 women. Ovarian cancer is often referred to as the disease that whispers because the symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague and there is no early detection test If ovarian cancer is found early and treated, the five year survival rate is as high as 90 percent. As a volunteer and Committee member of the Winners walk of Hope I encourage you to come out and learn about this disease. It is not an old lady disease as many think, I was diagnosed at 31 years of age with no family history. Now 8 years later - My goal is to change the face of ovarian cancer as it can happen to all women regardless of age. Please join me and many others September 12, 2010 at Southshore here in Barrie.
